THE OFFSHORE DIVER REVAMPED
Audemars Piguet has made watches for almost 150 years. It is best known for the
Royal Oak, debuted in 1972 with a groundbreaking octagonal design based on a diving helmet — all sharp angles and visible screws — and made of steel in an era when luxury watches were slim, gold and round. Its updated 2017 Royal Oak Offshore Diver range could be described as similarly “disruptive”: the focus is on colourways like acid yellow and lime green (AP’s terms, not ours). Like the first Royal Oak, it shouldn’t work but it does — brilliantly, in every sense.
