Blasts from the past

Bold, masculine scents are making a bigger splash again

-

Back in the halcyon, hairy Sixties and Seventies, a man’s fragrance — such as Old Spice, Brut or Aramis (the daddy of supermanly scents) — was a way of alerting all to his zipper-busting virility. Such scents were spicy, rich and musky with notes of sandal, cedarwood and patchouli. But as the idea of masculinity changed and revamped itself over time, so too has the expectation of how men should smell, heralding a slew of fragrances underpinned with citrus and floral notes. But this season, the big names are muscling macho scents back to the front, where they belong.

Try these seven strong contenders.
