Teenager’s finger torn off as she climbs fence into illegal rave

- Sophia Sleigh

A TEENAGER’S finger was torn off as she climbed a 10ft metal fence to get into an illegal warehouse rave that had been sealed off by police.

The girl’s little finger was sliced off when she joined others trying to enter a storage centre in Charlton that drew thousands of ravers.

Witnesses said up to 200 had tried to scale the spiked metal fence surrounding the building after officers blocked the gates at 9pm on Saturday.

It i s understood that there were too many people for police to disperse so officers decided to prevent more from gaining access while allowing the rave to continue.

Nine people were arrested as part of the operation. Sound equipment and vehicles were seized after the rave ended at 6am yesterday.

Carmen, 16, had managed to climb the fence when she heard a girl screaming. She told the Standard: “Once I got over the fence I heard this really loud scream. It was such a shock.

“I turned around and she screamed she had lost her finger. Everybody was freaking out. We were looking for it for 10 minutes. She was screaming and inconsolable.

“Everyone was looking at the floor but a boy was trying to climb over the fence and said, ‘Oh my God, it’s here.’ About five people were filming it.”

Carmen added: “The policeman was talking to us with the finger in a bag. Police were trying to calm her down. I’m sure she wasn’t listening to them — she was in so much shock. The police bandaged her hand.

“She was holding the hand that was bleeding and shaking a lot. There was blood everywhere.

“She didn’t have any friends with her and nobody went in the ambulance with her. Now, looking back, I feel I should have gone with her.”

Another witness, Amber, said: “As she jumped over and let go her finger got swiped off by the fence. It was caught in between the three metal spikes.

“It was awful. People said it was like a horror movie. Some boy was sick because of it.”

Amber received puncture wounds on the back of her legs when she fell on to the fence as she tried to get into the party, which had been advertised on Facebook.

She added: “My leg was really bleeding. It hurt and I was worried I would have to get a tetanus jab.”

Seven men and two women have been arrested and were in custody at a south London police station.
