Freeman granddaughter was stabbed in ‘exorcism’
THIS is the first picture of the man accused of murdering Morgan Freeman’s granddaughter in a cocainefuelled “exorcism”.
Lamar Davenport allegedly stabbed E’ Dena Hines, 33, to death in a street in New York as he screamed: “Get out, devils. In the name of Jesus Christ, I cast you out.”
Davenport, 30, the victim’s boyfriend, is an aspiring actor with a hi stor y of drug abuse and a criminal record.
He was taken to New York’s Columbia Presby terian Medical Centre to undergo psychological testing before being questioned by police. Miss Hines, the granddaughter of Freeman’s first wife Jeanette Adair Bradshaw, regularly appeared on the red carpet with her grandfather (below) — leading to claims, strongly denied, of a romantic relationship between the two — and also featured in a number of films. The heartbroken star, 78, said: “The world will never know her artistry and talent. Her star will continue to shine bright in our hearts, thoughts and prayers. May she rest in peace.
“I want to acknowledge the tremendous outpouring of love and support my family has received regarding the tragic and senseless passing of my granddaughter E’Dena Hines. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
The att ack took place near Miss Hines’s home on West 162nd Street in the Washington Heights neighbourhood yesterday morning.
George Hudacko, 65, who c alled emergency services for help, said he saw a man stabbing Miss Hines and screaming: “Get out, devils. In the name of Jesus Christ, I cast you out.” Another witness, Brydon Tarafa, 28, said he heard a man shouting “Jesus Christ is born”, shortly after a woman screamed.
Ray Rosario, who claimed to be Davenport’s best friend, said he went out for dinner with the couple and some friends on Saturday night, and the pair had been “ecstatic”.
Miss Hines had recently been cast in a small indie film called Landing Up, which began shooting in June.
