Eriksen rejects Spurs’ latest offer

BUT STAR HOPES TO STAY AT SPURS

CHRISTIAN ERIKSEN has rejected Tottenham’s latest offer of a new contract but remains keen to agree fresh terms.

The Dane’s deal has two more years to run and he turned down the most recent of f er, though t al ks between the parties are expected to continue.

It is thought Eriksen was looking to be moved into the same bracket as Tottenham’s top earners given his fine performances with the club. He has scored 30 goals in three seasons and provided a re gular flow of assists.

Hugo Lloris, the goalkeeper and captain, collects about £80,000 a week, with Erik Lamela earning about £70,000 a week and Mousa Dembele £65,000 a week. Harry Kane, Tottenham’s top scorer for each of the last two seasons, is on about £50,000 a week.

Tottenham have wanted to tie up a new deal for Eriksen, 24, for nearly a year. Eriksen (right), who joined from Ajax for about £11million in the s u mme r of 20 1 3, earns about £30,000 weekly and is targeting a significant rise. There remains, however, optimism on both sides that the deal will eventually be done.

Eriksen said last season he hoped to stay at Spurs. After scoring the winning goal at Manchester City in February, Eriksen said: “We’re still talking about the contract. It’s all positive. I think everyone can see I can fulfil my ambitions here.”

Standard Sport revealed in May that Juventus had sounded out intermediaries about Eriksen’s availability but the Italian champions ev e n t u a l l y we n t for Miralem Pjanic from Roma.

Eriksen’s contract is a priority for Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy. The club are also in discussions with Lamela and Jan Vertonghen.

Like Eriksen, Vertonghen’s contract runs out in 2018, while Lamela signed a sixyear deal when he moved from Roma for £30m three years ago.
