Chappell’s legal man gets in a water fight

-

ANOTHER scene for BHS: The Movie? Executives at the collapsed stores chain accused their former owner Dominic Chappell of being a “liar”, which is something Chappell’s legal adviser in the US can sympathise with, as he has recently been successfully defending accusations of dishonesty in a private lawsuit.

Brian Lebrecht of Utah-based law firm Clyde Snow & Sessions is advising Chappell at Todex, his Las Vegas shell company, in his bid to return to the retail world.

Lebrecht has been embroiled in a legal spat of his own with Deep Blue Pools & Spas, a swimming pools and hot tubs contractor.

He and his wife alleged that Deep Blue failed to construct their swimming pool, built-in barbecue pit, concrete decking and waterfall (yes, waterfall) in a “workmanlike” manner.

Deep Blue launched a counterclaim, arguing it hadn’t been fully paid for the work.

Lebrecht scribbled a handwritten note of a proposed settlement at a meeting between the parties, rather than drafting a formal document.

Deep Blue argued that the document was not legally binding and accused Lebrecht of “dishonesty”.

The court agreed that it was not binding but declined to uphold the dishonesty claim.

Chappell and his cronies do like to make a splash.
