Late transfer window winds up Eric

-

TOTTENHAM midfielder Eric Dier says the timing of the transferransfer deadline has an unsettling effect on the start to a club’s season. “Thehe window shouldn’t be open now, it should be over once the Premierr League season begins,” said the 22-year-old. “Once the season starts, I wantant to be at a club where everyone is pushing in the same direction and knows where they stand. I don’t think it helps players or managers. Obviouslyviously it’s good entertainment but it shouldn’t be open when the seasonason starts.” been left out. Dier, who was one of the few England players to make a positive impact in France, admits Allardyce’s arrival means everyone is having to fight hard to keep their place.

“It is a fresh start for everyone,” he added. “There is a new manager and he is going to have different opinions and different views. Everyone is going to have to prove themselves again — and I’m no exception.

“I don’t think anyone can figure out what happened [against Iceland]. It was a very bad day for everybody involved, for the whole country and every football fan in England.

“It is one we want to put behind us. It will be good to play another game on Sunday and forget about that one. There is no point dwelling on it. It is the beginning of a new journey towards the World Cup and everyone is looking forward too that.”

Such was Dier’s matureature showing in France, hee was put forward by someme as a potential England captain. Wayne Rooney, who will retire from international footballotball after the World Cup, has keptept the arm-armband under Allardyce.e. But when asked if he hoped too be consid-considered for the role one day, day, Dier said: “Yes. It is nice if peopleople are men-mentioning you in that way, way, it me a n s you a r e d oo ii nn gg something right.

“I’m delighted Waynene is still captain, I thinknk he is a fantastic captain.in. One day, if I do get the chance, I hope I can learn off him. That would be great.”
