AINSLEY HARRIOTT today spoke of the “devastating” impact on the local community after a 24-year-old man was knifed to death yards from his home in south London.

The victim, who has not been named, was attacked in the street on Tuesday night and died at the scene, becoming the fourth person to be stabbed in death in the capital in as many days.

A passing au pair gave first aid to the man outside the £13,000-a-year Wandsworth Preparatory School in Melody Road but was unable to save him.

The Ready Steady Cook star lives in a house overlooking the scene and said the killing had been a shock for everyone. “It’s devastating for us around here. We are a very close community and this is a shock to us all,” he said.

“This knife crime has to s t o p. I t ’s about education, that’s where it must start.

“There seems to be another murder every day. We are all talking about this around here. This is just awful, awful, awful.”

Model Imogen Thomas, who also lives nearby, revealed she was “petrified” to sleep in her home after the victim was stabbed in the neck apparently as he tried to escape a row that broke out near Wandsworth Common.

The former Big Brother contestant wrote on Twitter: “[The killing was] literally on my door step. So sad. I was petrified sleeping last night. Thoughts are with the victim’s family. RIP.”
