Rearguard action for fashionistas at Met Gala
IT IS the biggest night of the fashion calendar — and the stars who turned out for the Met Gala did not disappoint.
Rita Ora, Cara Delevingne and Lily Collins provided plenty of British glamour on the steps of New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, as they joined supermodels Bella and Gigi Hadid, and singers Rihanna and Katy Perry.
The theme was Comme des Garçons: Art Of The In-Between, celebrating the wo rk of Ja p a n e s e d e s i g n e r Re i Kawakubo.
Many guests wore gowns with extravagant trains, including Gisele Bundchen in a pewter embroidered cut-out dress by Stella McCartney. Bella Hadid opted for an Alexander Wang catsuit, while sister Gigi teamed her Tommy Hilfiger dress with fishnets.
Perry’s flowing dress by John Galliano for Maison Margiela had a red veil, dividing Twitter.
“Miss Katy Perry just won the MetGala,” wrote a fan. “MetGala what does katy perry look like?” said another.
Delevingne and Ora had similar futuristic hairstyles, with the model’s head painted s i l v e r, while Ora was bright blonde. Rihanna wore a 3D explosion of floral fabrics by Comme des Garçons, Kendall Jenner left little to the imagination in a see-through gown of crystals from La Perla Haute Couture Collection while sister Kim Kardashian wore a simple white Vivienne Westwood dress.
Will Smith’s son Jaden had a new cropped hairstyle and clutched the trimmed locks, while Sean “Diddy” Combs sought attention on the stairs, later claiming: “I was getting tired so I laid down on the stairs!” Pregnant tennis star Serena William kept it simple, as did Collins and fellow actress Lily James.
