which included long jump champion Markus Rehm.

Wallace, meanwhile, will arrive in London with a point to prove. The 27year-old consistently broke 11 seconds in the build-up to the Rio Paralympics but finished fifth in the final after one of his slowest times of the year (11.16sec).

Wallace is back on form and harbouring dreams of repeating his performance of 2015 when he ran 10.71sec, smashing the world record held by his compatriot Browne.

Unfortunately for Wallace, injury forced him to miss that year’s World Championships in Doha, where Browne reclaimed the record.

Therefore, had Browne been in London, Peacock would not have been the only athlete eager to get one over him.

“He’s definitely the guy to beat when he’s back,” says Peacock. “He’s the defending world champion, he says what he says and he’s got a target on his back — not just from me but from everyone else in the field.

“He’s world champion right now and

everyone else in the world wants to be world champion.”

With Browne absent and Peacock the Paralympic champion, the target has shifted to the Briton, and he appears to have the form to back it up.

Already this season he has run 10.76sec, just 0.08sec off his personal best and comfortably the quickest he has ever run at this time of year. Five years on from his crowning glory as a teenager, the 24-year-old gives off the aura of being an old head within the British team.

He has spoken with team members about reliving the glories of London 2012, and is confident the event will eclipse anything he has experienced in the sport outside of the Paralympics.

“I know for a fact that this will be our biggest and best worlds,” he says. “And you only need to look at London 2012 for that. I’ll be ready.”

Jonnie Peacock goes for gold in the men’s 100m T44 final on Sunday July 16. Tickets available for just £10 — tickets.london2017athletics.com
