Last night fire broke in a council block less than a mile away in Hampstead. A woman who gave her name as Maryana said she jumped from the balcony of her second-floor flat in Waxham House to escape smoke that was “thick as a mountain”. One man was treated for smoke inhalation after 60 firefighte­rs tackled the blaze.
