- Barney Davis

A MOTHER today told of the moment her son died in her arms five months after he was attacked while celebrating Father’s Day with his wife.

Police have launched a murder inquiry after father-of-four Terrence Baker, 29, died on Sunday from injuries after an assault near Canary Wharf on June 18.

His mother Janet Baker said: “I got into the hospital bed with him. He was my baby boy and he died in my arms. I was there holding him when he had his first breath and I was there for his last.

“He was a gentleman, nice and polite, he’s never been a fighter, He would never hurt anyone when he was little he would run to his sister for protection. He lived for his family.”

The removals worker from Limehouse was punched once in the face in a pub argument and suffered fatal brain damage as he fell, his family said. His wife Katie, with whom he had a son and three daughters, spent their first wedding anniversary in July at his hospital bedside.

She said: “He was a loving husband, a fantastic father and an amazing guy.”

A 32-year-old man was charged with GBH with intent after the attack in Plevna Street. The charge is now being reviewed. Two women, aged 30 and 31, will appear at Stratford magistrates’ court in February charged with common assault.

Detectives are appealing for information about the incident.
