Bring on the Budget, Martin Lewis-style

- ITV, 8pm

Tomorrow, Chancellor of the Exchequer Philip Hammond will hold his red ministerial box aloft as he prepares to announce the details of the government’s autumn Budget.

This programme was probably timed to coincide with that event, but wouldn’t it have been better to broadcast afterwards, when we could all use a guide to what the Budget’s implications may be? Sadly, that’s not to be, so let’s hope that the issues dealt with here are still relevant from November 22 onwards.

The City worker-turned-journalist’s financial advice, originally dished out via his MoneySavingExpert.com website (which is still going strong), has helped thousands of people across the country save a small fortune by highlighting deals on a wide range of goods and services.

Interest rates went up for the first time in years recently, and Lewis is the ideal person to explain the impact that may have on the finances of ordinary people across the land.

Energy prices and inflation are also on the rise, but one hopes there will be a few handy tips to help consumers deal with them, while viewers get an opportunity to pose questions about their individual concerns during the show.

Lewis is joined by new co-presenter Angellica Bell, who looks at the best Black Friday deals and other offers for those hoping to bag a bargain in the run-up to Christmas.

This live programme kicks off a new 12-part series, so if you miss it, don’t worry — there will be plenty more hints and tips on the way soon.
