CRYSTAL PALACE are set to announce before Christmas ambitious plans to redevelop Selhurst Park. Palace chairman Steve Parish last night told fans to expect a “major announcement” and it is understood the club will next month reveal plans to expand their home of 93 years.

Palace have explored the possibility of building a new stadium but they will now push ahead with a redevelopment of Selhurst Park following positive talks with Croydon Council.

The club have held informal discussions with the council and are expected to be given planning application early next year.

Selhurst Park holds just over 26,000 and Parish in the past has spoken about his long-term ambition to expand the capacity to around 40,000.

Palace have wanted to make significant improvements to their stadium since they were promoted to the Premier League in 2013 but they have hit a number of planning obstacles.

Parish committed to redevelopment following the investment in 2015 of Americans Josh Harris and David In 2017 Betfair has had the best odds on all English football. “This side of Christmas there will be a major announcement,” said Parish.

“We have been working very hard for a long time to try and get the right idea and we think we have now got it. When I came into this thing, the aim was to bring something for all of us to be proud of on the pitch and very importantly off the pitch.

“We want to give everybody in Croydon and south London a stadium that we can all be proud of and not lose our atmosphere and uniqueness.

“That is a dream for me, a lifelong dream and one that, hopefully, everybody will share when they see what we have put together. It is exciting times for us to look forward to.”
