Yes to car-park cancer screening
IT’S fantastic to see lung cancer screening being rolled out in London [“Supermarket car park scans in pioneering bid to cut lung cancer deaths”, October 10] . As the country’s biggest cancer killer, it’s vital that more is done to detect lung cancer at its earliest stage: survival rates significantly improve. So being able to screen people with a higher risk of developing lung cancer, such as people who smoke, could potentially help us save thousands of lives. This is what patients deserve.

IT WOULD be wrong to assume lung cancer affects only smokers or former smokers. My own late father had never smoked yet was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer, after his only outward symptom was a shortness of breath. Sadly the prognosis was not good, nor is it for many others if lung cancer is not diagnosed early.
