SURFER AIRLIFTED TO HOSPITAL AFTER SHARK BITE ON MOUTH

-

A SURFER was flown to hospital today after being attacked by a shark. He was at Baylys Beach about 60 miles north-west of Auckland when the predator struck at 6pm local time. The surfer, in his twenties, was reportedly bitten on his hand, elbow and mouth but was able to walk and talk. The shark left bite marks and a tooth in his surfboard. Several other surfers were in the water at the time. Shark attacks are relatively rare in New Zealand.
