Bristol takes down BLM statue
A SCULPTURE of a Black Lives Matter activist was removed today, 24 hours after it was secretly raised on the plinth left empty by the toppling of slave trader Edward Colston’s statue.
At 5.20am Bristol city council workers arrived with a crane to lift A Surge of Power (Jen Reid) into a skip lorry and cart it away. A council spokeswoman said Marc Quinn’s work, erected in a covert operation at 5am yesterday, would be “held at our museum for the artist to collect or donate to our collection”.
Bristol mayor Marvin Rees told the BBC today: “This is about taking down a statue of a Londonbased artist who came and put it up without permission.”
