Moyes wants to stay as talks begin over new deal but his focus right now is race for Europe

- Jack Rosser

DAVID MOYES has no intention of leaving West Ham and has begun talks with David Sullivan over a new deal.

The Scot has taken the Hammers from a relegation battle to fighting for a place in next season’s Champions League.

Moyes’ contract is up this summer and although there is a clause that would allow it to be extended, co-owner Sullivan is keen to reward the 57-yearold with a fresh deal.

However, the manager does not want to agree anything while the race for Europe is still on.

He spelt out his position today when he was asked about links with the vacancy at Celtic, the club where he had three years as a player.

“I’ve got no intentions of going anywhere,” said Moyes. “I’ve already spoken to David Sullivan, we’re up to date and things are quietly ticking along. I don’t want anything to get in the way of what we’re doing just now.

“I’m not going to come out and say I’m signing a big contract or doing anything else that in any way might change things around. I just really want to go about the job and try and be professional.

“I am really happy here, I enjoy the people I work with and there has been great improvement on and off the field here at West Ham.

“I’m hoping to continue making them better and, hopefully we can start to sustain a level of League position that we’re in at the moment.”

West Ham are fourth in the Premier League as they head to Manchester City tomorrow. Pep Guardiola’s side are 10 points clear at the top of the Premier League and won their 19th consecutive game in all competitions when they beat Borussia Monchengladbach in the Champions League on Wednesday.

The Hammers and City are the two form sides in 2021 putting Moyes in the running for the Manager of the Year award, but the former Manchester United boss cannot look past his counterpart tomorrow.

“There is only one candidate and that is Pep because he is top of the League,” said Moyes. “Manchester City look as if they have the best chance of winning the Champions League this year. Everybody is sure they’re going to win the League.”
