THREE men were stabbed to death in separate attacks during a bank holiday weekend of bloodshed across north and east London.

On Sunday, a 38-year-old man, named locally as Jack Hague, was found with fatal knife wounds after a fight on Corfield Street, Bethnal Green, at 8.20pm. He died at the scene despite efforts from the ambulance service to save him. Police have also launched murder investigations after two men in Enfield and Waltham Forest were stabbed to death last night. Neither victim’s age is known at this stage. The killings come as Sadiq Khan kicked off his historic third term as London Mayor.

During the mayoral election, his record on knife crime came under scrutiny with parents of victims and rivals claiming he had lost control of the capital’s streets.

Official statistics show a 20 per cent rise in knife and gun crime last year.

Figures also show there has been a 38 per cent increase in knife offences since Mr Khan took office eight years ago.

Two days before the poll, 14-year-old Daniel Anjorin was killed and four people seriously injured during a sword rampage in Hainault.

Daniel’s family said they were “devastated”, adding: “It is difficult for us at this time to process what has happened to him and that he will never come home. Daniel had left the house for school and then he was gone.

“Our children have lost their loving and precious brother and we have lost the most loved and amazing son.”

A spokesman for Mr Khan said: “Keeping Londoners safe is [his] No 1 priority, and he is investing a record £151 million in this year’s budget for policing and crime prevention.”
