Olympia finals prove a big hit with officials
THE five water polo Scottish cup finals played at the Dundee Olympia for the second year was again a big success.
Scottish water polo officials were pleased with the outcome of the finals and there’s a possibility they could come back to the city next year.
Edinburgh Warrender won two trophies.
The capital side collected the Dave Balbirnie U/16 Trophy, defeating Dunfermline 14-9 and the Annette Mooney U/19 Trophy was secured with a 12-11 win over Dunfermline. Annette Mooney’s husband Gavin presented the trophy to the Edinburgh club.
Menzieshill Whitehall U/21s lost out after a brave fight against Dunfermline in the final of the Malta Trophy.
The Dundee side held their own for three periods and, going into the final quarter, the score was 4-4. However, the Fifers scored three goals to win 7-4 and collect the silverware.
Menzieshill also lost to Dunfermline in the senior ladies Graz Trophy, going down 13-7.
In the senior men’s final, Portobello beat Dunfermline 15-6.
Menzieshill’s Lewis Hunter and Nick Parsons have been picked for a youth tournament i n Lloret de Mar from August 31-September 4. Also chosen from the Dundee club are Andrea Barker, team manager, and Ben Parsons, coach.
