Tope set to sign for Utd after all

- BY TOM DUTHIE

After a dramatic 12 hours, the 26-year-old is set to become a Tangerine after all.

Last night, manager Ray McKinnon pulled the plug on the deal.

That came after having agreed terms, the now formerKilmarnock attacker’s representative asked for changes to his proposed contract.

The United gaffer’s swift response to that was to call things off.

He felt the late change showed the winger-cum-striker was not showing the commitment he’s insisted players must have before he allows them to sign up.

But after a series of late night phone calls, United are now convinced Tannadice is where he wants to be.

The Englishman is now set to head north to put pen to paper on the contract that was originally offered.

It’s not clear yet if that will be done in time for him to be involved in tomorrow’s closed-door friendly with Highland League Cove Rangers.

But Obadeyi should be available for Tuesday night’s friendly at Forfar — the first chance Arabs will have to see Ray’s new-look team.

By the time the final whistle blows against Cove, the manager will have seen virtually his whole squad in action.

He had a bounce game in training yesterday afternoon and was able to run the rule over trialists Stephane Zubar, Alen Ploj, Joe Ward and Lewis Hornby.

Hornby joined up with the squad yesterday after being recommended by ex-Scotland international Scot Gemmill.

The midfielder was formerly with Northampton.

As many members of the squad as possible will play at least part of tomorrow’s game.

“Right now it’s about getting people game time,” said Ray.

“It was good to see the boys who are on trial in a match situation.

“They’ve l ooked good i n training but the best way to judge them is in a game.”

Goalkeeper Michal Szromnik, meanwhile, has left the club after agreeing a severance package.

Today saw United’s new away kit go on sale at the club shop opposite Tannadice.

Fans also have until Sunday to take advantage of the Early Bird discount on season tickets.

Sales are currently standing at more than 3,100.

TOPE Obadeyi’s move to Dundee United is back on.
