I’m not here bench vows

- By LIAM KENNEDy

HAVING never done it so far in his footballing career, Dundee striker Yordi Teijsse hates the thought of sitting on the bench.

The Dutchman, seen by many as back-up to Kane Hemmings, Greg Stewart, Rory Loy and Craig Wighton, admits he’s not come to the City of Discovery to play second fiddle to anyone.

“I hate sitting on the bench — I never did this in Holland,” said Teijsse, who is expected to play a part this evening when Dundee travel to Alloa Athletic (kick-off 7.30pm).

“This is a step up, of course, but I do not want to be on the bench. I have come to Dundee to play games.

“It is up to the gaffer but I will work hard to make sure I am ready to be picked.”

While Teijsse — signed on a free from Dutch amateur side Quick Boys this summer — is confident ahead of the new campaign, he does accept it won’t be easy to get in the Dark Blues XI, especially with players of Stewart’s ability in the ranks.

“I have not played with Kane yet as he has been injured but you can see how good Greg is,” said the 23-year-old.

“In training and on the pitch he always wants a touch of the ball.

“Every moment he is asking for the ball. I like that about him. I can see us working well together.

“Jeebsy (Gary Harkins) is also a very good player. I have been very impressed by his style of play.

“It is obvious to see we have very good players at this football club. I hope I can add to that in the next two years.”

Teijsse is hoping to break the mould when it comes to gaffer Paul Hartley’s foreign forward acquisitions.

It’s fair to say while Paul has enjoyed remarkable success when he has scoured the lower leagues domestically for talent, his moves from abroad, especially up top, have left a lot to be desired.

Teijsse, keen not to follow in the footsteps of Spaniard Arturo and German Luka Tankulic, does not believe it will take him time to settle in to the Scottish game, although he does admit he needs to adapt.

Speaking about his first taste of football for the Dark Blues on Tuesday night at Dumbarton, he said: “It was
