-

Brechin city and raith rovers ser ved up an entertaining 90 minutes at Glebe Park, with the Fifers coming out on top 2-0.

rovers dominated the opening 45 minutes with chris Johnston firing home the opening goal from the edge of the penalty box in the 34th minute.

city had the lion’s share of possession and pressure after the break but the visitors sealed victory 12 minutes from time when Lewis Vaughan glanced a header past city sub keeper Ben Tough.

rovers boss Gary Locke said: “it was another good workout for the players and, as i said after the Forfar game on Tuesday, it’s all about getting fitness levels up and minutes on the pitch.

“Although it’s always pleasing to get a couple of goals, the most important thing is getting the players through the game unscathed and maximising their fitness.

“We’re somewhat depleted through injuries at the moment but i was pleased at how well we moved t he ball about, particularly i n the first half.”

city assistant boss Lee Bailey was in an upbeat frame of mind at the end of the 90 minutes, despite his side’s defeat.

“We worked hard on keeping our shape when we were out of possession and it gave us a chance to look at some of the players we’ve brought in on trial, to assess their performance,” he said.
