Easton pleased with start made

-

ST JOHNSTONE’S former Dundee defender Brian Easton is “really pleased” with the way the team have started the season.

Tuesday night’s 1-1 draw away to Brechin i n the Betfred Cup was followed by a penalty shootout victory for the Glebe Park side. That has been the only blot on what has been a super start to the season for the Perth men.

However, qualification for the next stage of the Betfred Cup is still in Saints hands and will be assured if they defeat Stirling Albion at home on Saturday.

“In the main we have put in good performances and looked strong,” said Brian.

“We have such a good squad, our bench l ooks strong every game.”

Brian has captained the side in the absence of Chris Millar but he states the team has a number of leaders.

“Steven Anderson and Steven MacLean are ‘captains’, too, as they are the type who act as leaders,” Brian went on.

Saints have been top-six finishers the last few seasons and Brian is under no illusion it will be a hard task to finish there again.

“We have a right job on our hands to finish a top-six side again but we need to aim high and we will do.

“I t ’s w i t h i n our capabilities to finish in the top six once more.

“Rangers being i n the league makes it stronger and I am really buzzing at the prospect of playing at Ibrox as well as Parkhead.”

First up for Saints, though, is Stirling Albion’s visit to Perth.

Dave Mackay, David Wotherspoon and Ally Gilchrist are still out injured but Keith Watson should be available.

Before the game there will be a Family Fun Day on the all-weather pitch at McDiarmid Park between 12pm-2.30pm.
