Stewart next out Dens exit door?

-

BIRMINGHAM City are set to test Dundee’s mettle by tabling a bid for want-away forward Greg Stewart.

The Dark Blues are braced for bids for their star man, less than 24 hours after the news of Kane Hemmings’ shock departure.

Stewart has made no secret of his desire t o depart Dens this summer.

But, with just a year left on his deal, and despite interest from the likes of Aberdeen, Rangers, Hearts and Leeds United earlier in pre-season, the Dark Blues have stated they do not wish to lose Stewart, who has netted f our ti mes already this season.

And it’s understood that, although the £1.5 million price tag on his shoulders has warded off bids, so far, with the summer window now beginning to hot up, clubs are now set to play their hand.

And, having scouted him on numerous occasions last season as well as last weekend, Birmingham are on the verge of star ting the bidding for Stewart.

Ye s t e r d a y evening brought the shock news that last season’s 25-goal hitman Hemmings completed a £250,000 switch to Oxford United, penning a three-year deal down south.

The Tele can reveal Hemmings told the paper back i n March he had a clause in his contract that allowed him to depart for the sum, which was later confirmed by his representatives.

When news of this was put to both manager Paul Har tley and managing director John Nelms the existence of a £250,000 release clause was denied.

Stewart does not have any such get-out clause in his contract at Dens.
