Car owner fears he is being ‘targeted’

- BY JAMES SIMPSON

A FINTRY man has told how he fears he’s being targeted after his car was damaged in a second attack by a vandal.

The man, who asked not to be named, told the Tele how his black Audi was left with damage including a smashed window and punctured tyres, which he believes will cost thousands to repair.

The attack was caught on a camera the man had installed outside his home following a similar incident which cost him £5,000.

He told the Tele: “I don’t know why my vehicle is being targeted but no other vehicles on the street have been attacked.

“It is almost a carbon copy of the last attack which happened only a few months ago.

“I didn’t hear the tyres being slashed but I actually saw the guy breaking the rear window.

“I ran down the stairs and gave chase, but couldn’t catch him.”

The owner said that in hindsight he was relieved he had not been able to catch up with the offender.

He said: “It wasn’t until I started looking back over the footage that I realised he had a knife and a hammer — but it was a natural instinct to try and catch him.

“I have a mixture of emotions going on right now.

“I’m shocked it’s happened again, gutted that my car has been damaged so soon after having the panels sprayed following the previous incident, and extremely angry that I’ve been singled out.”

The car has been left with scratchmarks on the passenger side, spanning the length of the vehicle.

The owner is adamant that he won’t sell the car in an attempt to bring the incidents to an end.

He added: “I don’t see why I should get rid of the vehicle but this is obviously costing me a lot of money.

“I hope the CCTV footage and the help of the general public and the police will help to catch this guy.

“Prior to these two incidents I’ve had no issues.”

A police spokeswoman said: “Police Scotland is making inquiries after a car was vandalised on Thursday July 28 in Fintry Road, Dundee.

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Tayside Division on 101.”
