ROUND-UP ’Shire come out on top in derby versus Lichties

IN the Angus derby, Forfarshir­e came out on top after a rainaffect­ed cricket match at Forthill.

A downpour during the Arbroath innings saw the overs reduced to 34 a side.

Ross McLean (63) and Harris Carnegie (39) had the Lichties 188-6 at tea.

A Duckworth/Lewis revised target of 200 was then set for Forfarshir­e who eased home with six wickets to spare with Matty Parker scoring 71 not out and 61 from Graham Beghin .

The Eastern Premier Division title race was blown wide open when leaders Watsonians suffered a shock loss to Heriot’s.

This result sees them drop to second for the first time in a long while with Carlton taking over at the top. Watsonians lost by 39 runs. Steve Knox scored a patient 60 but a whirlwind 63 not out from Sean Weeraratna changed the outcome of the match as Heriot’s reached an unlikely looking 230-7 at tea.

Although a lot of the Watsonians batsmen got a start in their innings, no one had a big score as they were dismissed for 191,with Marc Watt and Kev McLaren both claiming three victims.

Falkland’s woes continue after they were hammered at home by Carlton.

The Edinburgh side had scored 244-9 in their innings with Arun Piilai getting 104. He then completed a fine day’s work by taking four wickets as the Fifers could muster only 94 in reply.

This result now sees Carlton take over at the top of the table with five games to go.

The Glenrothes revival came to a shuddering halt as they were demolished by Aberdeensh­ire at Gilvernban­k.

Young Craig Shorten claimed 4-20 as the Glens were dismissed for only 64.

Chasing down Dyce’s 179 all out, Scotland skipper Preston Mommsen scored an undefeated 62 to see Grange home in style.

In the Western Premiershi­p, leaders Clydesdale’s match against Ayr was washed out but nearest challenger­s Ferguslie were defeated by Prestwick at Meiklerigg­s. Therefore, Clydesdale take another step towards the title.

East Kilbride moved into second place with a win over Dumfries.

In the Western Championsh­ip, Poloc and Greenock continue to lead the way after both sides won against Hillhead and Stirling.
