Wotherspoon will start City game says Wright

-

ST JOHNSTONE manager Tommy Wright said midfield man David Wotherspoon will start Wednesday’s away friendly against Manchester City.

He has been missing for the majority of the Betfred Cup action but appeared as a second half substitute in the 4-0 home Betfred Cup win over Stirling Albion, scoring Saints’ fourth goal.

A wrist injury requiring surgery had meant David missed the early Betfred games but Tommy said: “He did well when he appeared against Stirling and he’ll start against Manchester City.

“We’re all looking forward to that game. It will be a useful experience.”

One player who may be missing is Chris Millar. The Saints captain came off in the first half with a groin injury and it remains to be seen whether or not he recovers in time.

“Chris came off as he felt his groin but we have plenty of people who can come in for him. Paul Paton replaced him and Murray Davidson and David Wotherspoon were on the bench although David came on later. Liam Craig can play in Millar’s position, too,” Tommy went on.

Saints goals were spread around with Steven Anderson, Steven MacLean, Liam Craig and David Wotherspoon all netting.

“The early goal by Steven Anderson helped us and it was a setback for them,” Tommy added.

“We had so much possession that we got loose at times and our intensity became lacking.

“However, we won 4-0 and have finished top of our section.

“Now we will prepare for our friendly against Manchester City and then welcome Aberdeen on Sunday in our first league game.”
