BROUGHTY Ferry’s volunteer lifeboats were called out to help a windsurfer off the Fife coast.

The Coastguard and RNLI scrambled t heir teams following reports that the windsurfer was on his own and experiencing some difficulty at St Andrews Bay around 7pm yesterday.

The RNLI crew was sent out to aid the man along with a team from St Andrews Coastguard.

A spokesman for HM Coastguard said the drama was over by 8pm, adding: “We alerted both Broughty Ferry lifeboats along with the St Andrews Coastguard team to the incident.

“The inshore and allweather boats were tasked to reports of a windsurfer in difficulty.

“The windsurfer was handed over to the Coastguard teams at St Andrews, who then passed him over to the ambulance service.

“The casualty appeared to be in good health but the paramedics were just checking him over to be sure.”
