Control room not place for police officers

-

IT’S absolutely scandalous that serving police officers are working in the control room in Dundee as highlighted in Saturday’s Tele.

They should be out on the streets where they can do most good and serve the community.

It is an undisputed fact that there are not enough police officers currently on the beat.

In many cases, officers are in the control room on vastly superior salaries to civilian staff sitting alongside them doing the same job.

Most people accepted a few officers nearing the end of long careers doing the job at the police station.

Many currently sitting in front of a screen are relatively fledgling in their careers, and I know personally of one who has served only around four years.

This has to be looked at and has got to be one of the priorities of Chief Constable Phil Gormley (pictured right).

To PC Or Not To PC.
