Darren in Scotland’s World side

ARBROATH’S Darren Burnett has been selected to represent Team Scotland at this year’s World Championsh­ips in New Zealand.

He will play i n the men’s singles and also the triples with Ronnie Duncan and Iain McLean.

At this year’s World Indoor Bowls Championsh­ip, Darren won gold in the Open Pairs alongside Stewart Anderson and gold in the Mixed Pairs with Katherine Rednall.

At the Glasgow Commonweal­th Games two years ago, he won a gold medal in the men’s singles after defeating Canada’s Ryan Bester.

He also won the 2014 World Indoor title at the Gravells Welsh Internatio­nal Open.

With memories of the 2014 Glasgow Games and hopes for the Gold Coast Commonweal­th Games in two years, the squad will head to Christchur­ch in November to contest the championsh­ips. They are on from November 27-December 12.

Captain is Alex Marshall MBE.
