Young dancers take first prize in Paris

-

A GROUP of Dundee dancers became world beaters when they took first prize in a competition at Disneyland Paris.

Members of Dundee’s Showcase the Street took part in the Take Us 2 the Magic dance competition at the theme park.

A group of 32 youngsters, aged five to 18, and 18 adults made the trip to France.

The Junior Jamerz team, made up of children aged 5-10, won the younger competition, while their older counterparts came third.

Kayleigh Wilson, 28, who is a dance officer with Showcase the Street, said the trip had been the culmination of more than a year’s hard work and fundraising.

She said: “It was a fantastic trip. For some of our members it was their first trip abroad. We were the only group from this part of the country.

“The kids were up against teams from places like Russia, France, Germany, so to come first in the younger competition and third in the older was fantastic.

“The kids put on one performance, in front of four professional dancer judges. The kids were absolutely ecstatic to win.”

The day after the win the children had a chance to showcase their talents in a parade through the theme park.

The children danced in formation in front of the park’s main parade.
