Friends group will discuss crossing plan

-

LOCALS are set to campaign for a crossing on a busy Dundee road.

Bob Ballantyne, a retired community education worker, has contacted council officials in the hope that a pedestrian crossing can be installed on Lochee Road.

The 66-year-old from the Law area of the city today told the Tele that he feels the road is a busy enough thoroughfare to merit a crossing between the Dudhope Roundabout and the traffic lights at Polepark Road.

He said: “There are a lot of visitors to the city and you often see them crossing Lochee Road and travelling up through Dudhope Park to the Law. The skatepark is also well-used in the park.

“There used to be an island in the middle of the road but they took that away some time ago.

“You often see people stopping in the middle of the road because it is so difficult to get across.”

Local group, Friends of the Law, is set to discuss the proposal at its next meeting to decide whether or not it will back the plan.

Jimmy Black, councillor for the Coldside Ward, said that he was behind the move and would be encouraging his local council colleagues to back the plan.
