“The fixtures we have coming up definitely give us a chance of picking up points and taking us back to where we want to be in the top six.

“First and foremost, though, we must take care of the St Johnstone game and then take it from there.

“With the run we’ve been on it’s important only to look at the next game and try to win it.”

Dundee have been using a 3-5-2 formation in the last two games with Holt taking up a role as one of the three centre-backs. He admits to it being a slight change to his normal position but is just happy to be starting. “I’m enjoying just playing,” he added. “It’s a bit different to left-back but I’m happy to be playing anywhere I am asked to play.

“I’m more familiar with the wing-back role having played there with Queen of the South but we have Danny Williams doing well there and we have a good squad.”

Despite their current position in the league and their recent results, there is a lot of positivity coming out of Dens Park at the minute.

The confidence from Holt and his team-mates bodes well for Sunday in what will be another tough encounter against their Tayside rivals at McDiarmid Park.

The performances are on the up but they really need to start turning those displays into points.

Sunday would be a great place to start moving in the right direction.
