Girl, 13, struck by vehicle on street

A 13-YEAR-OLD girl was rushed to hospital today after being struck by a vehicle on a Tayside street.

The accident happened near to the traffic lights at Perth’s Oakbank Road and Glasgow Road.

It is understood the girl was on her way to Perth High School j ust after 8.30am when the incident occurred.

A spokeswoma­n for Police Scotland said they received an emergency call that a pedestrian had been struck by a motor vehicle.

The spokeswoma­n added: “We were subsequent­ly told that it was a 13-yearold girl.

“Initial reports said that she was conscious and breathing.

“An ambulance was called and took her to Perth Royal Infirmary for treatment.

“Later reports said that it appeared her injuries were not believed serious.”

An eyewitness at the scene said it looked like the girl had been making her way to school when the accident happened.

The resident told the Tele: “She appeared to have been struck by a van.

“Her friends and other members of the public rushed to her aid.

“It looked like some teachers from the school also ran to help her.”

The eyewitness said that police and an ambulance quickly arrived at the scene.

The witness added: “It looked like the to be girl was able to speak to paramedics so hopefully she wasn’t too badly injured.

“It was quite upsetting for everyone who was with her and I really hope she is all right.”

He said that a member of the public in a high visibility vest directed the traffic on the busy road away from the incident.

He added: “Police and an ambulance arrived quickly after that and the police closed the road and kept motorists away from the scene.”

Another eyewitness said: “There was quite a tailback of traffic following the incident.

“Police closed the road to allow paramedics to attend to the girl.”

Stagecoach said all Perth city services were subjected to delays due to the accident.
