Man charged with assault near club
Officers launched an appeal earlier this year, asking for the public’s help in connection with an alleged attack outside the entrance to Dundee University students’ union.
They asked for assistance in identifying a man in a CCTV image, whom they wanted to speak to in connection with the incident.
Now, a spokeswoman for Police Scotland has confirmed that a man has been charged in connection with the alleged assault, which is said to have happened in May.
She said: “Police Scotland can confirm that a 19-year-old man has been charged in connection with an assault which allegedly happened at Dundee University students’ union on May 8.”
She added that a report would be submitted to the procurator fiscal in due course.
Indre Urbanaviciute, who is president of Dundee University Students’ Association (DUSA) — which runs the union — said she was pleased to hear that an arrest had been made in connection with the alleged attack.
She added: “We take the safety of students in the union very seriously.”
Police released CCTV in relation to their appeal in September, showing a man they wanted to speak to.
Officers also released a description of the man they were looking to trace, along with a name they believed he may have been known by.
The appeal came after a 20-year-old man required hospital treatment for a “serious” facial injury following an incident on the grassy area outside the union.
On its website, DUSA says it’s the number one place in Scotland for “student experience”.
It says it has won awards for being safe and “the best student value venue”.
DUSA represents students who attend the university.
The union itself has facilities at the premises including three bars, two clubs, shops, eating facilities and a swimming pool.
