Bus firm on board for Dundee ‘Learning Journey’
XPLORE Dundee has joined in a celebration of local heroes who helped put the city on the map.
The bus operator worked with Dundee Science Centre and Go Dundee to support this year’s “Learning Journey”.
More than 40 people boarded a double decker bus to tour key areas of the city.
The theme was “Discovery Walk”, focusing on the local people whose names have been immortalised in nine bronze plaques set into the pavement at the new Waterfront development.
The journey began at Discovery Walk and took in the DC Thomson building at Meadowside, the James Hutton Institute in Invergowrie, NCR on the Kingsway and the D’Arcy Thompson Zoology Museum at Dundee University.
At each stop-off point there was a presentation and discussion about the local heroes who have helped shaped Dundee’s past, present and future.
Richard Gourlay, communications manager at Dundee Science Centre, said: “We worked in partnership with Go Dundee, creating a lively and exciting event, stemming from notable Dundee achievers of the past who have had a significant impact in areas such as life sciences, medical research, education, technology and creative industries.
“The Go Dundee event has been as popular as ever this year, and we were delighted Xplore Dundee came on board once again, ensuring that the local heroes-themed festival event was a Learning Journey to remember.”
Elsie Turbyne, managing director of Xplore Dundee, added: “It’s a pleasure to support an event like the Learning Journey, which celebrates the best of our city and its people.
“Using the bus to visit these key destinations is the ideal way to take in the sights of Dundee and enjoy this event.”
