Man injured as car crashes into ditch

- BY JON BRADY

Emergency services were called to a one-vehicle smash on Saturday on the A923 Coupar Angus road, close to its junction with the road into Fowlis, near Muirhead.

Tyre tracks and two damaged road signs were visible at the scene.

The male driver was rushed to Ninewells Hospital with a back injury, where his condition is understood to be stable.

A male passenger is helping police with their inquiries. Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Robert Fraser, who lives nearby, said the road was a “speed track” for drivers who often drove dangerously on the single carriageway at weekends.

The 49-year-old told the Tele: “The road is notorious. There are an awful lot of accidents there — it’s a bit of a speed track for boy racers. “The police seem to concentrate on catching speeders in Muirhead rather than out here.

“It’s well-known around here that the road is quite twisty.”

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “We responded to a one-vehicle road traffic collision involving two male occupants following reports of a car driving erratically.

“The vehicle was found in a ditch and has now been recovered and the driver was taken to hospital.

“The road was closed and a crash investigator attended. There was no authorised pursuit. Inquiries are still ongoing.”

A spokeswoman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We attended a road traffic accident on the A923 at the Fowlis Road junction on Saturday. We received the call at 6.36pm.

“Two appliances attended from Macalpine Road. One vehicle was involved. Both casualties were removed from the vehicle before we arrived. We made the scene and the vehicle safe.”

A spokesman for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: “We received a call around 6.30pm regarding a road traffic accident.

“Two ambulances attended. One male patient was conveyed to Ninewells with a back injury.

“The other male was discharged at the scene after being assessed by paramedics.”

POLICE are investigating reports of a car being driven “erratically” before a crash near Dundee which left a man with a back injury.
