ROUND-UP Crawford hits brace as ’Hill cruise through

IN the men’s Scottish Cup second round, Grove-Menzieshil­l beat Inverleith 4-0.

After a close first half, only a penalty by Ciaran Crawford separated the teams.

Menzieshil­l, however, dominated after the break with goals by Mike Ross, Crawford and Hamish Gault to seal a quarter-final place.

The Dundee side were minus several players due to injury, including Gav Thomlinson. The return of Gavin Byers from playing and coaching in Australia was timely.

Coach Chris Anderson was also in the squad and came close to adding a goal.

In the same competitio­n, MJV Dundee Wanderers had a 5-1 win over Dunfermlin­e Carnegie with Ross Glashan (3), Bobby Ralph and Rory Taylor scoring. There was another good performanc­e by goalkeeper Conner Downes.

Possibly the shock result was Monarchs’ 5-4 win in a penalty shootout after a 2-2 draw against Aberdeen GSFP.

Special credit goes to Monarchs keeper Sean Thomson.

Monarchs normal ti me scorers were Callum Boag and Steve Thomson then penalties by Boag, Munro, Falconer Glashan and White secured the quarter-final place.

Unfortunat­ely, the fourth Midland side was less fortunate with St Andrews University losing 2-1 to Edinburgh University.

Winners in the other ties were Clydesdale, Kelburne. Granite CW and Grange. The quarter-finals are on November 13.

In the ladies Scottish Cup, both local teams progressed. MJV Dundee Wanderers had a 4-2 win over Erskine SM, which included a Charlotte Watson hat-trick and a Vikki Bunce goal, while Grove Menzieshil­l had five scorers in their 7-0 win over Clydesdale Western.

Other winners were Kelburne, Clydesdale Western, Edinburgh University, Hillhead, Granite City and Western Wildcats.

In the men’s District Cup, Harris FP II conceded to Rottenrow and Menzieshil­l II lost 7-0 to Watsonians II. In the Reserve Cup, Dundee Wanderers III had a 2-0 win over Hillhead V.

Men’s Scottish Plate scores included Perthshire 4 Highland 1 and Greenock Morton 4 Harris FP 1.

In the District Plate, scores included Dundee Wanderers II 2 Fidra Lions 1 and East Kilbride 1 Perthshire II 2. Wanderers IV lost to Western Wildcats III by 15-0 in the Reserve Plate.

Monarchs Ladies had a 2-1 win over Highland II in the Ladies District Plate with goals by Jennie Moodie and Eilidh MacKenzie.

There was a limited league fixture list at the weekend. On Friday evening in the Men’s National Division One, Hillhead had a 4-1 win over Uddingston in a bottom half of the table game.

In Division Two, Glasgow University drew 3-3 against Stepps.

In the Ladies Division One, there were two evening games at DISC on Sunday, with Dundee Wanderers beating Western Wildcats 5-0. Goals were by defender-turnedatta­cker Becca Murray (3), Vikki Bunce and Jessica Ross, in a well-deserved and very entertaini­ng win.

This was followed by a close win for Grove, 4-3 over Western Wildcats with the home goals from Katie Robertson (2), Iona Armour and Sara Jamieson.

MCC Western and Grove are joint leaders with a five-point lead while Wanderers are in fifth place.

In Division Two on Saturday, St Andrews University lost by 4-0 to Glasgow University. On Sunday, the St Andrews students lost 4-2 to Dundee University while Glasgow University had a 2-0 win over Granite City Wanderers.
