Monarchs lose out to students

IN a Midland Ladies Division One hockey game, Monarchs lost 3-2 to St Andrews University III.

This weekend there is a full programme for Midland men’s leagues and eight games in the two ladies League Cup pools.

The Midland men’s indoor season started with Division One at Douglas Sports Centre.

Harris FP I had a 5-3 win over Monarchs I but were thrashed 12-1 by Menzieshil­l II who had hattricks from Dave Petrie and 15-year-old Hamish Rice.

Bruce Rowan hit a hattrick for MJV Dundee Wanderers I in a 3-0 win over their second team.

Division Two starts on Thursday at 7pm with Perthshire I, Menzieshil­l III and IV and Monarchs II playing.

Midland Ladies starts tonight at 7pm in the Douglas Centre with Monarchs v Wanderers III, Grove v Kinross and Wanderers II v St Andrews University.

Scotland’s U/16 and U/18 boys and girls squads played in England’s ‘Futures Cup’ at St Albans.

The Scots finished with one third place, two fourth places and one fifth place.

On Saturday in the men’s National League One, Menzieshil­l play Gordonians at DISC (1pm).

It’s also Kelburne v Clydesdale, Hillhead v Edinburgh University, Watsonians v Grange and Uddingston v Western.

In Division Two, MJV Dundee Wanderers are away to Greenock Morton.

Harris FP face University of Dundee (DISC, 11.30) and St Andrews University face Stepps.

Division Three includes Perthshire away to Aberdeen GSFP and Monarchs v CALA (Dalnacraig, 2pm).

Menzieshil­l II are away to Hillhead II in a Central Division Two encounter.

In Ladies Division Two, St Andrews University host Inverleith.

Grove II are away to CALA II in Championsh­ip A. Kinross host Aberdeen University.

In Championsh­ip B, Perthshire host Stirling Wanderers.

Scotland’s Ladies have a three-match series against Ireland with games on Sunday at Clydesdale (6pm) then at the Glasgow National Hockey Centre on Tuesday (5pm) and Wednesday at noon.
