Watson may get game next week

-

ST JOHNSTONE defender Keith Watson is hoping his injury woe is coming to an end.

A number of knocks have hit t he f ormer Dundee United and Hibs man since he arrived in the summer from St Mirren.

However, Saints boss Tommy Wright said Watson, who can play at full-back or in the centre of defence, is progressing.

Tommy said: “We have arranged a closed doors game against East Fife next week so, hopefully, Keith will be able to play in that.”

Meanwhile, Murray Davidson is unlikely to get game time for a few weeks.

He suffered a recurrence of his ankle injury during the warm-up at the away match against Rangers last Wednesday.

He will see a specialist on Thursday and a clearer picture is likely to emerge then as to how long he will be out.

On the credit side, Chris Millar is fully fit. He stepped in to play against Rangers when Davidson was ruled out but didn’t face Partick Thistle at home on Saturday as Saints didn’t want him taking part in two games in such a short space of time after being out injured for a time.

He will be in the squad to face Hearts at Tynecastle on Saturday.

Tam Scobbie, who has had ankle s u r g e r y, continued his comeback with 90 minutes in the home U/20 game against Inverness CT.

He played alongside Liam Gordon i n the centre of defence and came through with no ill effects.

Saints won 2-0 with goals by Connor McLaren and Greg Hurst.

Striker Joe Gormley, who was on loan from Peterborough, has quit full-time football and returned to Northern Ireland where he is training with his old club Cliftonville.
