Singer-songwriter’s fundraising gig at Bro’ty church

-

A SINGER-songwriter who has appeared on BBC Songs of Praise is to perform at a Broughty Ferry church.

Bruce Davies will give a concert at St James Parish Church tomorrow, to help raise funds to pay for the ongoing costs of running the church.

Alys Esselmont, who is involved with the fundraising group at St James, said everyone was looking forward to the evening.

“It’s going to be a wonderful evening,” she said.

“Bruce performed for us in January and he was just superb, so we asked if he would come back to perform for us again. We can’t wait to welcome him back. We have capacity for about 300 people and, while we doubt we’ll fill the hall, we’re hopeful.

“It would be lovely if we could fill the church.”

Fife-based Bruce performs with acoustic six and 12-string guitars. He describes himself as having “a rich baritone voice and an accessible style, one of Scotland’s most accomplished artists”.

He has been a part of The Spirit of Scotland Show, has appeared at the United Nations in New York and performed in some of Scotland’s top concert venues. He has also appeared on the BBC’s Songs of Praise programme, where he sang and spoke of his faith.

He said: “It’s my hope people will be entertained, stimulated and encouraged by the songs and feeling of each performance.”

Organisers have said the music will be a combination of traditional Scottish music, Christian songs and an eclectic mix.

Some of Bruce’s albums will also be available for concert-goers to buy.

Tickets for the concert cost £5 and can be paid for on the door.

The concert at the Fort Street church will begin at 7pm.
