Man charged after police raid on multi

- BY ADAM HILL

Officers descended on Bonnethill Court in the Hilltown area of the city.

Following the raid, a 48-year-old man was charged with drugs offences by police.

Officers seized substances from the premises, which are understood to have been sent for analysis.

The Tele understands that prescription medication was allegedly seized during the operation.

Eyewitnesses spoke of seeing up to 15 officers run into the multi-storey block — and also the neighbouring Hilltown Court — wearing helmets and using battering rams.

One eyewitness, who did not want to be named, said that he had seen three police cars and two vans “screech” into the multi car park around 9am yesterday.

He said: “They went running into both of the multis. “There was a load of them, I would say about 15 police officers.

“The ones that ran into Bonnethill had a battering ram and were wearing helmets.

“They ran i nto both the lifts and went up the multi.

“There was a lot of them so both the lifts were full.

“There was a huge bang after that.

“It was terrifying to see and it caught me by surprise but I have to admit that it is quite common to see the police down here.”

The eyewitness added that the police operation went on for most of the morning.

He said that police officers were seen coming and going from the multi throughout.

He said: “They were in the building for about three hours in total.

“I saw them bring someone out after that.

“Things have been quiet here at the multis for a while so it was a bit unexpected.”

A spokeswoman for the force said: “Police Scotland can confirm that a 48-year-old man was charged with drugs offences.

“A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.”
