Storm are sent packing by a Comets goals rush

-

DUNDEE Comets defeated Kilmarnock Storm 5-2 in a Scottish National League match at Dundee Ice Arena.

Comets goals were shared around with five different scorers.

The first period was a one-sided affair with Comets only able to score one goal despite having plenty chances to add more to their tally.

Kilmarnock keeper Blackwell was in stellar form and made life difficult for the home side.

When Killie scored just before the break, Comets team members must have wondered how this game was going to go after having so many chances.

The second period, however, was a different story.

The Dundee side scored five goals in eight minutes as Storm were sent reeling.

Scorers were John Gordon, Kris Inglis, Jamie Whitelaw, Bill Baxter and Ross Johnston.

No further scoring occurred for Comets as the Kilmarnock men locked down around their net.

A late consolation goal for Kilmarnock seconds from time closed the game at 5-2 for Comets.

Comets coach John Gordon said: “We knew the kind of game this would be.

“It gave us a chance to give our backup goalie Bryan Morris the whole game and this resulted in him winning the Man of the Match award.

“Our next match is away against Kilmarnock.

“It will be a tougher test playing in the small rink which does favour the home side.

“It’s expected Storm may have some new signings but we fully intend to come back with the points.”
