“We saw last year it is a hard place to come and get a result and we knew it would be a fight,” he added.

“It was about matching them and winning the battles, which I think we did.

“We could have scored more goals as well but we aren’t going to complain.”

The winning goal could have been claimed by Paul McGowan, Marcus Haber or even gone down as an own goal.

It was eventually given to McGowan but, given the importance of the goal, Julen didn’t mind who got the credit.

“I don’t care who got the goal, just as long as it went in,” he said

The win was based on a solid defensive display by the Dark Blues and the team will need more battling performanc­es by Julen and his team-mates if they are to climb the table and get themselves off the bottom of the league.

Motherwell are heading to Dundee in confident mood, having put four goals past Ross County.

That coupled with the fact Dundee haven’t won at home this season will make it even more vital the players show the type of passion that was evident against Hamilton to the home fans.
