Fourth Nationalist councillor reveals plan to step down

council head Mr Guild, adding that he had been a “great leader”.

Other council colleagues today paid tribute to the foursome as they prepare to exit council life.

Lochee councillor Alan Ross said: “Ken was one of the most energetic leaders that I have ever worked with.

“Bob is my own ward colleague and I probably wouldn’t be in the position I am in had he not convinced me to stand for council at the age of 24.

“When we took control of the council, Jimmy Black inherited a damaging report about the state of housing in Dundee and he managed to turn things around and we have continued that good work.

“David Bowes has done some fantastic work and has served the city for a long time — everyone’s contribution has been amazing.”

West End councillor Vari McDonald said: “The reason I stood in the first place was because Ken was keen for the group to have more female members.

“He is a very experienced councillor and I hope that he has a long and happy retirement because it is a lot of work being on the council and running the administration.

“We are all very much a team and it will be very different with Ken, David, Bob and Jimmy stepping down and having other people involved in the group. “That is politics, though.” No names have yet been put forward for the leadership of the SNP group on the council.
