Argyle want Scottish Cup repeat showing
DUNDEE Argyle face a tough task in the second round of the Scottish Cup this weekend as they defend their trophy.
Argyle welcome Glasgow side Northend to DISC for a 2pm kick-off aiming for a repeat of last season’s semi-final between the pair.
The two met in the last four but it was the Dundee side that came out on top, a 3-0 victory sending them on their way to a historic cup win.
But manager Alan Henry knows it’ll be a difficult ask for a repeat scoreline.
He said: “It’ll be a hard game, especially at this stage of the competition.
“We could have done without drawing them so early but if you want to win the cup you’ve got to beat teams like this.
“We did it last season and we want to retain our trophy.
“They’ll know what to expect from us but then we do, too, and we’re quite confident.”
Argyle defeated local rivals Annfield in round one but go into Sunday’s match on the back of two weekends without a game.
Alan added: “We’ll be well rested at least! The boys still play on a Saturday so it’s not like they’ve had their feet up, they’ve just not been together.
“We haven’t lost in the Scottish Cup in over a year now and want to keep that run going.
“Hopefully, we can stay unbeaten and win it again.
“The team is pretty much the same as it was last season with a few boys added.”
Argyle should have almost a full squad to choose from this weekend.
Also in Scottish Cup action are FC Polonia at home to Glasgow Rovers (Fairmuir, 2pm kick-off) while Dundee Social travel to north Glasgow to face Kilsyth Rovers.
Tayport also have a secondround tie at home to Edinburgh side Stables.
LAST weekend in the Premier League there were wins f or Tayport, Annfield and Dundee Social.
Tayport gave an impressive showing, running out 9-1 winners at Osnaburg.
Annfield and Charlie Accies, meanwhile, shared out 11 goals with Annfield taking the three points in a 7-4 victory.
In the other game of the day, Dundee Social were 4-2 winners over FC Polonia.
