‘It’s time to step up to the plate’

-

DUNDEE manager Paul Hartley has urged teenage striker Craig Wighton to “step up to the plate” after an impressive display in the win over Hamilton last weekend.

“I think Craig has to bring the best out of himself,” said Hartley.

“We know he has ability and talent but he has to step up to the plate now.

“He has been around about the team and the expectation level has been high but last week showed a different side to him.

“He showed a real maturity last week.”

The boss also went on to praise the fledgling partnership of Craig and Marcus Haber.

“Hopefully, that is a good partnership.

“I thought Haber was excellent as we went a bit more direct and he had to battle.

“I also thought Wighton was excellent working off him.”

After last Saturday’s win at Hamilton the manager says he needs more of the same attitude from his men.

“The players deserve a lot of credit for how they played last week and, as long as they keep working hard, t here will be no complaints.

“We have to fight every week and show there’s a real spirit among the group.”

He also said harmony in the camp is pivotal in their quest to climb the table.

“The unity was always strong but I think it i s stronger now.

“There is a lot of hard work still to be done to get to where we want to be.”
