Firework thrown by yob narrowly misses woman

- BY WILL LYON

THIS is the shocking moment a lit firework was thrown in a city street — rebounding off a wall and hurtling towards an unsuspecting woman.

In the video, the woman can be seen making her way past Poundstretcher on Lochee High Street while the man attempts to light a firework.

During the clip the woman disappears out of sight on to Methven Street just before the yob manages to light a flame.

The man then recklessly lobs the firework towards Methven Street where it bounces off a wall and then explodes right where the woman was walking. Lochee High Street

One of the group with the man throwing the firework bursts out laughing while another shouts: “there was just a woman walking down the road”.

The clip, which was uploaded publicly to Facebook in a post entitled “Just a quiet night in Lochee” has been viewed more than 250 times.

In the comments below the video, one person claimed the firework wasn’t meant to be sent in the direction of the woman.

He said: “Still feel bad for that lassie, man. Total accident.”

Another replied: “Was f unny though! At least she got up the road quicker! Lol.”

Paul Smith, chairman of the Lochee Traders’ Association, condemned the actions of the thug.

He said: “If their faces are visible in the video then all the police have to do is have a look and they’ll probably know who it is.

“If not, someone else will know who it is.

“Anyone who does something like that deserves to be punished.

“It’s just downright stupidity and endangerment of life. I totally condemn this.”

Chris Robertson, who runs Popin Cards on the High Street, said he hoped that it was a one-off incident.

A spokeswoman for the force said: “Police Scotland attended in High Street, Lochee, following a report of fireworks being set off in the area at about 8.50pm on Thursday, November 3.

“Fireworks can be dangerous if not handled in a safe and responsible manner.

“They can cause serious injuries to the person using them and those nearby and can also be the cause of significant damage to property.

“Fireworks should never be thrown or used i n a reckless manner. Fortunately there were no reports of any injuries but the consequences could have been far worse.”
