ROUND-UP Magnificen­t seven as ’Hill hit goal trail

THE GroveMenzi­eshill men’s hockey team had a 7-2 victory over AAM Gordonians at DISC on Saturday.

Grove stay in the top three in the men’s National Division One behind Grange, who had a 5-3 win over Watsonians, and Kelburne, who racked up a 7-1 win over Clydesdale.

An opening penalty-stroke goal by Gavin Thomlinson and a Jamie Golden strike just on half-time gave the Dundee side the edge in a close first half.

Jack Colliston pulled one back for the Aberdonian­s soon after t he break but t hen Menzieshil­l dominated despite a l ate consolatio­n for the visitors. Menzieshil­l’s other scorers were Albert Rowling, Adam Fallis and Ciaran Crawford (3).

Hillhead had a 3-0 win over Edinburgh University and Uddingston beat Western Wildcats 3-2.

In Division Two, the Greenock v Dundee Wanderers game was off due to a frozen pitch and St Andrews University lost 3-2 to Stepps. Harris FP had a 3-0 win over Dundee University with firsthalf goals by Grant Robertson (2) and Pete Black.

In Division Three, Monarchs had a walkover against CALA but Perthshire l ost 3-2 to leaders Aberdeen GSFP.

In Regional Division Two, Menzieshil­l II had a 3-2 win over Hillhead III on Saturday. On Sunday at DISC, they won 4-3 against Inverleith II with the Hill’s goals by Dave Petrie (3) and Chris Bonner. Inverleith II are top only on goal difference over Menzieshil­l II.

In Midland Men’s Division One on Saturday, scores were Menzieshil­l IV 0 Wanderers III 6, Wanderers II 4 Menzieshil­l III 1 with Wanderers’ scorers being Greg Pearson (2), Paul Dailly and Alistair Cadell.

It was Madras 3 Harris II 5 and Perthshire II 1 St Andrews University II 3 after Perthshire had the half-time lead. Monarchs II v Dundee University II was off.

On Sunday, Division Two scores were Menzieshil­l V 0 Perthshire III 5, Menzieshil­l VI 0 Perthshire IV 1, Harris III 0 Monarchs III 0 and Wanderers V 5 Madras 0.

In the Midland Ladies League Cup, there were wins for St Andrews University IV, Grove III, Perthshire II, Madras and Blairgowri­e. Scores i n Division One — St Andrews University V 1 Stirling University II 3.

There’s a full Midlands programme this weekend for the men’s and ladies Division One and Two with 13 games scheduled for Saturday and four men’s Division Two games on Sunday.

Thursday saw the start of the Midland Men’s Indoor Division Two at the Douglas Sports Centre.

Perthshire I dominated, starting with a 7-0 win over Menzieshil­l I V. A Ryan Cummings hat-trick was the best of the four scorers. He then scored a hat-trick in a 6-1 win over Wanderers III.

The score in the other game was 1-1 between Wanderers IV and Menzieshil­l III.

The division’s next session is on November 17. Division One returns this Thursday from 8pm with Wanderers 1 v Monarchs 1, Wanderers II v Harris 1 and Menzieshil­l II v Monarchs 1 from 8pm.

Midland Ladies Indoor results at the Douglas Centre — Monarchs 1 Wanderers III 3, Grove 3 Kinross 5, Wanderers II 6 St Andrews University 1. Games continue tonight from 7pm with Strathalla­n v Monarchs, Kinross v St Andrews University and Wanderers III.

Scotland and GB internatio­nalist Emily Maguire has announced her retiral from internatio­nal hockey. She won 118 Scotland caps, 59 for GB and a bronze medal at the London Olympics. Emily will stay playing at club level with Holcombe.
